A Chicago based artist, Dimitri Pavlotsky came to the United States from his native Russia at the age of twenty six. He brings with him a great deal of passion for discovery and experimentation. This energy of exploration combined with disciplined and rigorous drawing skills leads to many ways to manipulate figurative language. Bringing the direct gesture of expressionism into such an “antiquated” subject as portraits of 19th century czarist nobility and digging into the “thick” lanquage of building pictures…
